#NYTEclipseWatch: Your Photos of A Solar Eclipse’s Journey Across America
On August 21, more than 3,000 people used the #NYTeclipsewatch hashtag as they witnessed the "Great American Eclipse." Along with a group of colleagues, I worked on an interactive feature highlighting images and stories from the path of totality across the U.S.

*This project and related coverage were awarded a New York Times Publisher's Award and a silver medal ( Breaking/Daily News: Single-Subject Project) in the Society of News Design's 2017 Best of Digital Design Competition.)

Poetry and photographs:
Picture
Read a poem slowly. Let the words sink in. Then photograph what you feel. That is what my colleague Morrigan McCarthy and I invited photographers to do this summer for a series of visual essays inspired by poetry.

We selected poems by six contemporary American poets and presented each one to a different photographer. The resulting essays ran in print over the course of three weeks.

See the project online here.

This project was awarded two Society of News Design awards for its print presentation.

We asked people to document the first day of summer 2016 with photographs and share them on Instagram.

I selected some of the best, from more than 1,200 submissions.
